[P] Enabling multi-languages / multi-currencies

All our themes fully support multi-languages and multi-currencies through Shopify Market.

Enabling multi-languages

You need to create new languages in your Shopify admin to enable multi-languages. This is done at the Shopify level (not at the theme level). You can find more information about managing languages in Shopify documentation.

Enabling multi-currencies

To enable multi-currencies, you must configure your payment provider to support one or more currencies. You can find more information about managing currencies in Shopify documentation.

Multi-currencies are currently only possible with Shopify Payments provider. If you use a different payment provider or live in a country where Shopify Payments is not supported, please reach Shopify support.

Showing selectors in the theme

Our theme, Prestige, supports showing selectors in the header and footer.

To show selectors in the header or footer, open the theme editor, click on the "Header" or "Footer" section, and turn on or off the Show country/region selectors or Show language selector:

Languages do not show up even though they are enabled

If you have enabled the selectors but still do not see them, double-check that you have properly enabled them. Especially, languages must be published to be visible.

If you are still not seeing them, some languages have been turned off based on the domain name.

To fix this issue, click here to open the Domains page.

For each domains, click on "Manage":

Finally, double-check that all languages are correctly enabled for each domain:

Automatically redirecting customers

To automatically redirect customers to the correct language, you must configure your Shopify Market settings on Shopify admin.

To comply with local regulations, automatic redirection is impossible in some countries. For more information, reach Shopify support directly.

FAQ

  • My selectors show a long list of countries: in Shopify, a country selector is displayed rather than a currency selector. The reason is that a currency alone is not enough to capture all local variations. For instance, EURO is used in over 20 countries, each with its own tax and local regulations. This is why Shopify decided to use a country selector instead. You may have enabled too many countries in your Shopify Market configuration if you see too many countries. We recommend that you only allow markets that you are actively promoting.
  • Which translation app is recommended? You need to use an app to translate your store into multiple languages. We recommend the official Translate & Adapt app. This app is free and supported by Shopify.
  • Should I translate my store into many languages? We recommend translating your store only for the countries you are promoting. We also recommend avoiding automatic translations, as strange translations can reduce conversion rates and trust in your brand.
  • Should I use a geolocation app? The free app Geolocation from Shopify will automatically display a popup to your customers to recommend the most appropriate currency and language based on their physical location. This app is a great way to make your customers' life easier, and we recommend you use it.
  • Selectors still do not show up despite configuring everything properly: If you have double-checked your settings but still do not see selectors, this may be because you are using a version of the theme that is too old. Version 4 and lower of Prestige were released before the Shopify Market feature. If you use a very old version, we recommend upgrading the theme to take full advantage of Shopify Market.
